Jimmy Smith inducted into Pride of the Jaguars

Jimmy Smith, the all-time leading receiver in franchise history, was inducted into the Pride of the Jaguars during halftime of Sunday’s game between the Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings.

Smith wore a blue suit and was greeted by a roar of applause from fans before speaking for several minutes, thanking former teammates and coaches. He said becoming a member of the Pride was more important to him than a possible entrance into the Pro Football Hall of Fame could ever be.

“This city, the owner, Shad Khan, and these fans, my teammates recognize what I’ve done in my career,” Smith told the media after the on-field ceremony.

“I think it starts here before we go to the Hall of Fame. That’s why this is even more important than a Hall of Fame nomination or anything like that.”

Smith joined Tony Boselli (2006), former owners Wayne and Delores Weaver (2012), Fred Taylor (2012) and Mark Brunell (2013) as members of the Pride.

In 11 seasons with the Jaguars, Smith was voted to the Pro Bowl five times and set franchise records with 862 catches for 12,287 yards and 67 touchdowns.
